Coronavirus: Kanesatake closes alcohol, tobacco and cannabis stores

  • In an effort to encourage social distancing, no tobacco, alcohol or cannabis products will be sold in stores on the Kanesatake territory, Grand Chief Serge Simon announced Tuesday.
  • The Mohawk Council of Kanesatake wishes to inform the general public that all the stores selling either tobacco, cannabis and alcohol in the community have closed since midnight March 24 due to the coronavirus outbreak, Simon wrote in a news release.
  • This community decision, which is supported by store operators, has been made in an effort to protect our population.
